Primates from the four Anglican provinces in the Oceania region gathering for their annual meeting in Fiji today will be joined by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, Josiah Idowu-Fearon. The meeting is the first of several regional meetings of Primates being held over the next two years in the run-up to the Lambeth Conference in 2020.
Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy has been installed as the eighth Archbishop of Perth and Australia’s first female archbishop at a service in Perth on Saturday February 10.
The Diocesan Council has concurred that the Venerable Canon Sonia Roulston to become the Assistant Bishop (Inland Episcopate) to exercise episcopal ministry in the Upper Hunter, Maitland and Paterson Deaneries as well as working closely with the Diocesan Ministry Council and that the Venerable Charlie Murry to become the Assistant Bishop (Coastal Episcopate) to exercise episcopal ministry in the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie and Manning Deaneries as well as working closely with the Newcastle Anglican Church Corporation Board.
Garth Blake SC, a key figure in developing safe ministry policies for the Anglican Church of Australia, has been made a member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2018 Australia Day honours. Mr Blake has chaired the Professional Standards Commission since 2005 and chaired the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, Working Group, since 2012.
