Australian Family Project - Social Responsibilities Commission

That General Synod commends the report of the Social Responsibilities Commission on the Australian Family Project for study and appropriate action in dioceses and parishes. Moreover, in the light of some aspects of government policy which unde4rvalues the importance of marriage and family, this Synod

i) asks Governments not to treat other relationships as being equivalent to marriage with its formal commitment
to the long union;

ii) asks, in particular, that the Federal Government assist in the strengthening of the family life of the poor in
Australia by making available adequate support to ensure acceptable standards for their education, clothing, housing and nutrition.
