Australian Hymn Book Committee

That this Synod receives the Report of the Hymn Book Committee together with the annexed report of the combined Australian Hymn Book Committee entitled “Australian Hymn Book Report Two” and approves the recommendations of the Hymn Book Committee that this Synod should initiate such steps as shall be necessary to share in the publication of the Australian Hymn Book commending its use to the Church of England in Australia, and that, in pursuance of this,
(i) The Hymn Book Committee be reappointed to continue representing the Church of England in Australia on the
Australian Hymn Book Committee and that the Hymn Book Committee report regularly to the Standing Committee;
(ii) (a) That the Standing Committee appoint two representatives of whom one shall be a member of the Hymn
Book Committee to an interim committee of management (consisting of two representatives from each of the co-operating Churches) to make financial arrangements regarding the publishing of the Australian Hymn Book, and to take such action as shall be necessary to allow a contract to be signed for the publishing of the same Book, provided that this Synod shall not be involved in any financial responsibility without its consent;
(b) That the Standing Committee be empowered to approve acceptable proposals for the continuing
administration of the Australian Hymn Book as may be submitted to it by the interim committee of management from time to time;
(iii) That General Synod continues sharing in the administrative costs of the combined Australian Hymn Book
Committee as at present;
(iv) That the Hymn Book Committee maintain communication with the Liturgical Commission on the use of
hymns in public worship, affording such assistance as may be required by the Liturgical Commission in this regard.
