Marriage Preparation Programmes

That this General Synod
i) notes the incidence of breakdown in marriage in Australian society, especially the breakdown of second and successive marriages;
ii) asks all dioceses to encourage the development of appropriate Marriage Preparation Programmes;
iii) asks every diocese to give serious consideration to making attendance at such a preparation course a pre-requisite for marriage in the Anglican Church;
iv) asks every diocese to give particular attention to the needs for special preparation for those being married for a second or subsequent time;
v) urges the Federal and State Governments to make increased funds available for the support of accredited Marriage Preparation Programmes throughout the nation.
