Ordination of Women

Movers Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn

That this Synod, recognising that:

(a) there is a possibility that our Constitution permits each diocese to authorise within that diocese the ordination
of women to the priesthood, and

(b) there is a further possibility that in the event of the constitutional validity of such ordination being upheld
some bishops may proceed to ordain women to the priesthood;

affirms our continuing relationship as members of Christ within the Anglican Church of Australia;
acknowledges that relationships both within and between dioceses may be tested and strained, and, as the point of recognition and acceptance of ministries, communion diminished; and
calls upon all Anglicans to demonstrate the love of Christ within our national Church as we seek to pursue our unity in Christ despite this possible new difference between us.
