East Timor

Movers Denton, J.G.

That Synod, recognising that issues of justice and human rights are basic to the problem in East Timor resolves to ask the Australian Government:

(a) to call for some distinct form of regional identity for the East Timorese within Indonesia so that the
historical and cultural background of East Timor will not be swept away;

(b) to continue both unilaterally and in the world forum to press for the admission of international agencies
and to give such aid as is necessary for the relief of suffering there; and

(c) to maintain a generous attitude to the admission of refugees from East Timor.

(Mr J.G. Denton, 1.9.77)
