Most Australian Anglicans use A Prayer Book for Australia (APBA) as the basis for our common prayer.  The Book of Common Prayer of 1662 (BCP) continues as a benchmark. Printed Prayer Books, past and future, can’t cover all the situations where Anglicans want to pray together in publicThe Liturgy Commission of General Synod provides supplementary resources that may be used, with appropriate diocesan permission, along with APBA. From this page you can click through to a wide range of useful material.

Baptism

As we pray, so we believe – it’s an old maxim that explains why Anglicans take so much care in the words we use for common prayer.  Baptism is one of the two sacraments given to us by Jesus Christ.

Here you will find supplementary material for the APBA Baptism service, and material relating to Confirmation, Reaffirmation of baptismal promises, and Reception into the Anglican Church from other Christian traditions.

Lent, Holy Week and Easter

The most solemn and joyful times of the Christian year need special resources.

Holy Communion

‘Do this in remembrance of me’ – and Anglicans love to obey this commandment of Jesus when we celebrate Holy Communion – also known as the Lord’s Supper and the Eucharist.  Here you will find supplementary eucharistic material for use when children are present, Great Thanksgivings both ancient and more recent, and more.

Themes and Events

Here you will find prayers for various occasions, including Anzac commemorations, prayers for the care of the planet and each other, and many simple thanksgivings and prayers that can be adapted to suit your local circumstances. You can also use them as templates or models for your own prayerful response to the local context you know best.
